Mr Simon N Madge
MA (Cantab.) BM BCh (Oxon.) MRCP FRCOphth
Simon Madge is a senior consultant eye surgeon and director of Hereford Vision Surgical Group with an NHS practice based at Wye Valley NHS Trust, where he is a senior consultant in ophthalmic surgery.
He is fully trained in ‘keyhole’, micro-incision cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) and over the last eleven years, he has introduced laser eye surgery, image-guidance technology and lens replacement surgery to Hereford.
Mr Madge is married with three daughters and lives in Hereford. To relax, he enjoys cycling, running and walking in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside.
Simon Madge studied medicine at Jesus College, Cambridge University, graduating with a Double First Class degree in Medical Sciences in 1994, before studying clinical medicine at Magdalen College, Oxford University. After initially training in general internal medicine and gaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians, he then started specialist training in ophthalmology. After working in Bath and Nottingham, he completed his Higher Surgical Specialist Training on the Peninsular Rotation (Devon), gaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2007
In addition to his training in cataract / refractive surgery, he undertook two Fellowships in Eyelid, Lacrimal and Orbital Surgery: (i) with Mr VT Thaller at the Plymouth Royal Eye Infirmary; and (ii) with Professor Dinesh Selva, Dr Garry Davis & Dr James Muecke at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide, Australia, widely regarded as one of the best training opportunities in this field in the world.
He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is Fellowship Director of the Hereford international clinical Fellowship in ophthalmology & oculoplastics, now in its tenth year.
He is the author of two successful ophthalmic textbooks and over 60 scientific ophthalmic papers. His research has won national prizes at the annual conferences of :

Mr Ben While
BSc. MBBS MRCS(Eng) FRCOphth
Ben While is a senior consultant eye surgeon and director of Hereford Vision. His NHS practice is with Wye Valley Trust where he is lead clinician for Emergency Eye Care.
He grew up in Herefordshire and has a deep affinity with this region. Having spent 20 years away training and now home, he is fully committed to putting his knowledge and skills to best use.
Mr While is a specialist in state-of-the-art micro incision cataract and lens replacement surgery. He is also an oculoplastic surgeon – a specialist in eyelid and tear drainage surgery. He regularly audits his results to ensure excellent outcomes are maintained.
Mr While is a keen educator and is a cataract surgery tutor at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Mr While went to the University of London where he completed his medical training and a degree in the History of Medicine.
Mr While then underwent surgical training in Oxford becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This training included experience in a broad range of specialties related to periocular plastic surgery. He undertook ophthalmology training in Sheffield and Manchester becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. During this time Mr While developed expertise in cataract surgery, involving himself in the development of strategies that improve outcomes and reduce complications.
Mr While undertook further sub-specialist training in Sheffield as a fellow in eyelid, eye socket, and tear drainage surgery including the diagnosis and management of tumours of the eye and eyelids.
Mr While is a life member and committee member of the British Emergency Eye Care Society and member of the British Oculoplastic Surgeons Society.
Mr While has published numerous articles in peer reviewed journals and is a peer reviewer for many journals helping to maintain the highest standards of evidence in Ophthalmic practice.

George L. Morphis
MD. FEBOphth
George Morphis joined the team of Ophthalmology Consultants of the Victoria Eye Unit in the County Hospital in January 2013. He is a specialist cataract and vitreoretinal surgeon. He studied medicine at the National and Capodistrian University of Athens. He then trained in Internal Medicine at the Nassau University Medical Center (NY, USA). Following this, he had his core Ophthalmology training at the Red Cross General Hospital in Athens, Greece. He became a fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology in 2009 (FEBOphth, Paris).
In addition George Morphis had extensive Ophthalmology training at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where he had 2 fellowships.
George is married to Magda Peppa and they have two children (son and daughter). He enjoys cycling and swimming with his wife and children.

Retinal detachment repair
Macular hole surgery
Epiretinal membrane peeling
Vitrectomy for cataract complications and
Scleral buckle surgery which is the conventional method for retinal detachment repair.
Mr Morphis has also gained extensive experience in complex cataract surgery. This includes all cases where cataract surgery is not straightforward for different reasons including previous eye trauma causing traumatic cataracts or cases where the lens of the eye is unstable (i.e. pseudoexfoliation syndrome).
Medical Retina Fellowship:
Medical retinal conditions including:
Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD): a condition affecting mostly elderly patients causing central visual loss
Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) associated with long standing ophthalmic diabetic changes affecting vision
Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO) which is a condition associated with interruption of normal blood drainage from the back of the eye (retina)
Other less common medical retina conditions (Central Serous Retinopathy, non-ARMD related choroidal neovascularization).
George Morphis has extensive experience treating all above conditions with the latest antiVascular Endothelial Growth Factor (antiVEGF) intravitreal injections or intraocular lasering or even retinal surgery in advanced cases.
He is happy to see both insured and uninsured patients with:
- all above conditions as well as,
- general ophthalmic conditions (dry eye, glaucoma)
- and to assess patients and offer cataract surgery with standard or premium intraocular lenses
Mr Geraint Williams
MB BCh BSc PhD FRCOphth
Geraint Williams is a senior consultant ophthalmologist and specialises in cataract surgery, corneal surgery & external eye disease.
He holds a postgraduate diploma in cataract & refractive surgery and his expertise includes patients with previous laser refractive surgery, astigmatism and the use of premium lenses to restore sight.
His corneal interests include ocular surface inflammation, infection and scarring, corneal dystrophies such as Fuchs’ endothelial corneal dystrophy, keratoconus and dry eye disorders.
He also undertakes lamellar corneal transplantation and corneal collagen cross-linking.
Mr Williams trained in South Wales, the Oxford and West Midlands Deaneries. He was awarded a prestigious Wellcome Trust clinical research fellowship in 2008, completing his PhD in 2012 and achieving international prizes for his work researching scarring diseases of the ocular surface.
He was an NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of Birmingham from 2012 to 2014. He subsequently combined his research work at the Singapore Eye Research Institute with his clinical fellowship in the cornea and external eye disease department of the Singapore National Eye Centre, working with international leaders in their field.
Mr Williams is passionate about teaching and is an honorary clinical senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham.
His research interests include methods to detect inflammation and progressive scarring on the ocular surface, how the immune system responds to infection and how improved measurement such as imaging systems can help detect these responses.
His further interests include the role of lasers in improving outcomes in cataract and corneal surgery. He speaks widely to audiences in the UK and abroad and is a reviewer for numerous ophthalmic and scientific journals.

Mr Amun Sachdev
BMBCh MA(Oxon) FRCOphth PGCertMedEd
Amun Sachdev is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in micro-incision (“keyhole”) cataract surgery and glaucoma. His consultant NHS practice is with Wye Valley NHS Trust.
Mr Sachdev studied medicine at Merton College, Oxford University, and graduated with Distinction in 2012.
Over the course of his training, Mr Sachdev has developed expertise in complex cataract surgery. He also undertakes different types of glaucoma surgery, so that he can offer the best option to each individual patient if surgery is required. This includes new, state-of-the-art “micro-invasive” techniques that have been recently developed to manage glaucoma.
Amun is married to Elizabeth. He enjoys long country rambles, running and is a keen member of the National Trust.
He completed specialist ophthalmology training whilst working within many of the hospitals in the West Midlands and ultimately gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. He then completed the prestigious fellowship post in Bristol for sub-specialist training in glaucoma, during which he developed further experience in the diagnosis of different forms of glaucoma and the medical and surgical management options that can be provided.
Mr Sachdev is widely published in many scientific papers within peer-reviewed journals and is passionate about training the next generation of ophthalmologists. He is a member of the UK & Ireland Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons and the UK & Éire Glaucoma Society.

Mrs Tracy Kelly
Practice Manager
Tracy Kelly is the Practice Manager at The Wye Clinic, responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the clinic’s administrative functions. With a strong background in healthcare management and administration, Tracy plays a vital role in overseeing daily activities, optimizing workflows, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
As a key member of the senior leadership team, Tracy manages critical administrative functions, including financial oversight, resource allocation, and staff recruitment and retention. She oversees staff scheduling, maintains patient records, and manages billing and invoicing processes to ensure financial efficiency and operational effectiveness.
Passionate about patient care and staff development, Tracy fosters a positive workplace culture, ensuring the team is well-supported and aligned with The Wye Clinic’s mission. She works closely with the Operational Manager to continuously enhance service delivery and improve patient experience.

Sharon Smith
Operational Director & CQC Registered Manager
Sharon Smith is the Operational Director and CQC Registered Manager at The Wye Clinic, bringing over 10 years of experience in the private healthcare sector. With a strong background in quality and governance, she is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
Previously working as a General Manager in the NHS, Sharon has extensive experience in managing healthcare services, streamlining processes, and driving continuous improvement. Her expertise in clinical governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance ensures that The Wye Clinic not only meets but exceeds CQC and HSE standards.
As a key leader within the clinic, Sharon oversees strategic and operational management, working closely with clinical and administrative teams to enhance service delivery. Mr Powers
Consultant orthopaedic surgeon
Mr David Powers is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. He has worked at the local NHS Trust for over ten years, and is the Clinical Director for the Head, Neck and Orthopaedics Unit.
David graduated from Dundee University in 1996, then undertook his basic surgical training at the first National Trauma Centre in Stoke on Trent.
He underwent higher surgical training in both Oswestry and the West Midlands deanery before obtaining his FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2008.
He undertook a prestigious upper-limb Fellowship at the Auckland regional hand-trauma service New Zealand, covering all aspects of hand trauma and complex, chronic hand conditions. An initial consultation with Mr Powers costs £220.

Dr Sarah Schofield

Sarah graduated from United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in 1998. During this time she gained a first class honours degree in Physiology with her main area of study being endocrinology. After completing posts in Emergency Medicine in London and Australia, she trained in Paediatrics, gaining membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child health in 2002 . Realising she enjoyed the challenge of supporting the whole family rather than just the child, she trained to become a GP, gaining membership of Royal College General Practitioners in 2005.
During this training she developed an interest in women’s health and completed the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Diploma in Women’s Health and the Diploma in Family Planning and Reproductive Health. Sarah is a GP partner in a local Surgery and GP trainer. She has seen first hand the impact that good, individualised, holistic menopause care can have on a women’s quality of life and is committed to providing this to all patients she consults.
She is married with two teenage children and tries to practice what she preaches, keeping healthy and active with trail running, yoga, dog walking and any other pursuits her family encourage her to try!

Dr Sarah Morgan-Jones

Sarah graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2000 and went on to complete hospital training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine and Psychiatry. Following this she undertook extended vocational training in General Practice including posts in Rheumatology, ENT and Palliative Care. During this time she developed an interest in women’s health and completed the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Diploma in Women’s Health and the Diploma in Family Planning and Reproductive Health. She also gained Membership to the Royal College of General Practitioners with Distinction in 2005.
Since then she has enjoyed the privilege of working in General Practice and is a partner in a local practice. She is passionate about challenging the negative myths that persist about menopause management and believes in empowering women with up to date evidence based information so that they can make informed choices about their health aiming for both symptom control, optimised quality of life and long term disease prevention.
Sarah is married with three children whom she enjoys supporting in their various sporting hobbies. She enjoys running, open water swimming, riding and anything else that gets her out and about in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside with her family and friends.

Dr Holly Vaughan

Member of the British Menopause Society and holder of the British Menopause Society Advanced Certificate in the Principles and Practice of Menopause Care.
Holly’s medical journey started at Leicester Medical School in 2004 continuing on to the West Midlands where she completed her training as a GP, becoming a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2014. She then made her way home to Herefordshire, joining a local GP surgery.
Women’s health has always been a keen interest of hers. She is an educator in family planning and sexual health, coil and implant fitting, as well as a tutor to GP trainees.
Holly’s dedication to helping women with the menopause was born out of seeing countless struggling women in her practice.
Acutely aware of the widespread misinformation resulting in a legacy of fear, Holly developed her expertise and holds the British Menopause Society Advanced Certificate in the Principles and Practice of Menopause Care.
Harnessing her passion and skills, Holly takes a holistic approach using her training with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine to help women understand all aspects of their health and well-being. They can then better navigate their individual journey through the perimenopause.
Empowering women to make positive, personalised choices, Holly firmly believes medicine is more than just treating illness; it is about communicating and connecting with the individual.

Dr James Powell
BSc MBBS FRCP Dermatology UK
Dr James Powell is a local consultant dermatologist who specialises in diagnosing and treating skin cancers and lesions, inflammatory skin reactions and dermatoses, offering surgery to patients of all ages. James has always been passionate about patient care and the team at The Wye Clinic are exceptionally proud to have him working with us.
James is the Clinical Lead of the British Medical Journal Dermatology Team of the Year in 2021 and continues to have a busy and diverse role in the NHS, practising at Wye Valley NHS Trust. He also runs a specialist tertiary referral clinic at University Hospital Wales Cardiff, focusing on skin conditions provoked or worsened by sunlight; patients travel from all over the country to see him.
James continues to teach dermatology locally, nationally and internationally and has had many publications in some of the most highly-respected peer-reviewed journals in the world. He has also authored a successful book on photodermatology.
James graduated from Guys’ and St Thomas’ Medical School in London in 2007. He also achieved a First Class Degree in medical microbiology, with a focus on infectious diseases. He has recently been awarded a prestigious NHS Digital & Data Award (2022) as a champion of digital technology.

Mr Chapman
Mr Chapman was born and bred in the three counties and trained in Bristol as well as completing a variety of competitive fellowships In London and abroad. He has been a consultant plastic surgeon since 2011 specialising in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. His NHS work is based in Bristol and Gloucester. He is responsible for the training of plastic surgeons in the Southwest UK and has contributed to guidelines, review papers and textbooks.
He is a frequent speaker on the international stage. Mr Chapman can offer the full spectrum of plastic surgery procedures including facial plastic surgery, body recontouring, breast surgery and skin cancer/skin lesion and lump removal treatment, often with the benefit of minimal scarring.

Varicose and spider veins specialists
Help is now at hand with a comprehensive new vascular service at The Wye Clinic in Hereford. Leading this service is Mr Bajwa, an experienced consultant vascular surgeon who offers the most up-to-date assessment and treatments for all vascular problems, including varicose and spider veins.

Mr Adnan Bajwa
Mr Bajwa is a consultant surgeon specialising in varicose vein treatment and other aspects of vascular (blood vessel) surgery. Mr Bajwa qualified in medicine from the prestigious Imperial College London and undertook higher surgical training in London. He spent five years in the vascular units in Guys & St Thomas’ and St George’s Hospitals and was awarded a British Heart Foundation Fellowship to undertake his PhD in Vascular Surgery at Kings College London. He has published in high impact cardiovascular journals and has been awarded numerous national and international prizes.
He was appointed a Consultant Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in 2016 where he practised all aspects of vascular & endovascular Surgery, including high volume complex aortic repairs. He developed the highly successful renal access service there and also a successful varicose vein practice, offering all aspects of venous interventions.
In 2021 he relocated to Worcestershire, bringing with him a wealth of experience in modern vascular and endovascular interventions to The Wye Clinic in Hereford. Mr Bajwa offers comprehensive vascular assessments and management, as well as all aspects of local anaesthetic vascular interventions. Costs for an initial consultation start at £175 (or £250 to include a scan, if required).

Experienced general surgery
The Wye Clinic is home to an experienced general surgeon, with a great deal of expertise in the removal of lumps, bumps, cysts and lesions, including lipomas. Most of these simply cannot be removed within the NHS setting due to funding constraints.

Mr Chokkalingam Arun
Mr Arun is an experienced senior consultant general surgeon, whose NHS practice is based at Wye Valley NHS Trust. His clinical training in the UK has seen him work in prestigious surgical units such as Oxford, Nottingham and Cardiff, along with an impressive academic background culminating in an MD thesis and higher degree.
Mr Arun is skilled in many aspects of surgery, specialising in: the removal of “lumps and bumps” (many of which are not permitted to be done within the NHS due to funding restrictions); cysts; lesion removal; anorectal conditions, such as piles or haemorrhoids; hernia repair; pilonidal disease; bowel continence; and colorectal disease, such as cancer.
Mr Arun is well-known in Herefordshire for his charming demeanour, great skill and excellent outcomes from procedures. The Wye Clinic’s team is thrilled to be working with him.

Mr Christian Nayar
Mr Christian Nayar is a Consultant Urological Surgeon with expertise in managing male Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and prostate issues. He has worked at the County NHS Trust in Hereford since 2015 and is the Clinical Lead for Urology.
Christian graduated from St Andrews University (Scotland) and did his Clinical Studies in Manchester, graduating in 2001. He undertook his basic surgical training in Stoke-on –Trent.
He then underwent his Specialist Urological Training in the West Midlands Deanery, obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh in 2013.
Following this, he completed a Fellowship Year at the prestigious Bristol Urological Institute in 2014, covering all aspects of Urology but with a particular interest in Urodynamics and Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.
Christian is a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers and regularly acts as an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons Examinations.

Mr. Wasim Mahmalji
Mr. Wasim Mahmalji is a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Wye Valley NHS Trust, UK. He completed his urological training in South London/Thames in 2015 and became one of the youngest consultants in the UK at age 34.
He specialises in stone disease, core urology, endourology, and education and has performed over 8,000 urological procedures. He was the first surgeon to offer the UroLift and Rezum procedures on the NHS in the West Midlands, and the first in the UK to use a deflectable access sheath.
Mr. Mahmalji is the Stone and Education Lead at his hospital and serves as the West Midlands Urology Audit Lead. He is actively involved in audit, research, teaching, and training for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and chairs the West Midlands Urology Audit and Research Meetings. He is also the Senior Academy Tutor for International Medical Education at the John Ross Postgraduate Medical Centre.
He has delivered multiple podium presentations at leading conferences, including the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS), and the European Association of Urology (EAU). He has won and been shortlisted for multiple urological awards, conducted various audits and quality improvement projects, and is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Endoluminal Endourology.
Mr. Mahmalji has contributed to three urological book chapters and has been a lead or co-author of over 50 publications, with more pending. He is also a reviewer for journals including the British Journal of Urology International, International Journal of STD & AIDS, The Ageing Male, and The Journal of Clinical Urology. His expertise has been featured on both national and regional television and media.

Dr. Helen Fellows
Dr. Helen Fellows is the only liver specialist practising in Hereford, and her expertise in liver medicine is unparalleled.
With specialised training in hepatology, Dr. Fellows has worked in both national and international transplant centres, gaining extensive experience in the care and treatment of complex liver conditions.
Dr. Fellows has a particular interest in all liver diseases and has conducted research into Primary Biliary Cholangitis. She is also actively involved in national research projects aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of liver diseases.
